3rd CES Conference 2025 - call for papers

The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Sustainability (CES) at Brunel Business School, Brunel University of London proudly presents the 3rd CES Conference themed: Social Enterprise and Social Impact in Developing Economies.


The conference will take place on Thursday, 18 September 2025 at Brunel, Uxbridge. The conference aims to foster scholarly exchange, critical dialogue, and networking among emerging scholars whose research (whether ongoing or recently completed but unpublished) addresses the role, challenges, and innovations of social enterprises in developing economies of Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East region.

This one-day academic conference is dedicated to showcasing the work of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and PhD candidates exploring the dynamic and evolving landscape of social enterprise and social impact in developing economies. 

The conference thematic lines

We welcome extended abstracts (between 1,500–2,000 words) that engage with, but are not limited to, the following themes:

  • Social entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems.
  • Social impact measurement and evaluation practices in social enterprise.
  • Policy and regulatory environments in social enterprise.
  • Gender and marginalised communities in social enterprise.
  • Impact investment in social ventures.
  • Comparative studies and analyses on social entrepreneurship within or across developing economy countries.
  • Cultural roots, religion, and community support in social entrepreneurship.
  • Institutional voids in social entrepreneurship within developing economies.
  • Internationalising social enterprises and adapting practices across contexts.
  • Theoretical and methodological innovations in social entrepreneurship research.

Submission guidelines

Eligibility: Open to Early Career Researchers and PhD candidates only.
Submission Format: Extended abstract (1,500 - 2,000 words), including research objectives, methods, and key findings.

All submissions will undergo a peer-review process. Selected participants will be invited (and only accommodation cost covered) to present their work at the conference and receive feedback from academics and practitioners in the field.
